Living in a time when information technology is affecting all spheres of our existence it is also changing the ways people worship and conduct research. Especially regarding how contemporary societies worship, accord with authority, and process information, the digital era has contributed to the remodeling of how the divine and the empirical are viewed.
Many people in Nigeria are experiencing a change in belief that real presence is required in most events of religious inclination due to the impact of digital technology. Miracles in virtual environments are the primary subject of Abimbola Adelakun’s study to be conducted in 2022.
Adelakun noted that various activities such as “Distance Is Not a Barrier” of SCOAN add a new form of liveness beyond physical bodies that are linked to the socio-digital and can enable “liveness” and seeing the divine and miraculous. This revelation presents a new view on how people can be spiritually connected, which in a way, negates the divide between physical and virtual church spaces.
But this is not just limited within the church’s realm, this is a digital revolution. It also shifts how academic research is conducted; In the present study, questionnaires, a conventional means of data collection, are works in the process of being reinvented. Questionnaires are used frequently and there are good reasons for this because they can be applied to collecting various kinds of data and measuring abstract constructs. They are utilitarian, cost-effective, effective, and easy to plan and build and as such are widely used in research including health and science and applied linguistics.
A questionnaire being a quantitative research tool is meant to be complete with factual information that would be usable in comparison with other participants. Several issues when completing the design of the questionnaire must be addressed so that there can be a reduction of errors and bias in the study. Looking at content validity, the questions are subjected to cognitive testing and pilot surveys to determine the extent of the face and inter-rater validity of the questions as well as the test-retest reliability. Designing a questionnaire means identifying the elements needed for the questionnaire, defining what type of survey and questions would be used, the actual writing of the questions, and building up the construct of the questionnaire.
Antonio Spadaro in the field of theology initiated a theological systematic debate about the internet and referred to his fresh idea as cybertheology. He was interested in propaganda of “systematic and theological reflection” judgment on the internet and its uses. This viewpoint in which the web is seen as a context for theology and “the structures of communication to modulate theological reflection,” is a quite stimulating theological perspective.
Thus, Maggi Savin-Baden’s 2022 scholarship can be identified as a major step forward in the study of digital religion and proposes the need for an entirely new wave of research, postdigital theologies as wave 5. This paper proposes the author’s broad and well-structured synthesis that operates at the intersection of posthumanism, transhumanism, artificial intelligence, and the postdigital with theological reflection. The study outlines seven distinct postdigital theologies and their impact on the church’s power structure, objects, technologies, ceremonies, sacral things, Other Spaces, and praxis.
